In Port Hueneme, just off the Hueneme Beach area, I got a call from a woman who owns a 2016 F-Type. She had gone to another locksmith a few days earlier for a spare key after hers was damaged. Then I did what I always do before I call a job done: three cold starts, all remote functions on the fob, and a walk of both door handles to confirm touch unlock was responding the way it should.
She asked me what the other locksmith had done wrong. Honest answer: he probably used a chip that works on other JLR platforms and assumed it would carry over. On the F-Type, the module is not forgiving about that.
She paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted her for a module diagnostic, and she left with a key that actually works.
