2022 Kia Niro Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked on Wooley Road finishing up a different job when the call came in from La Colonia. Woman, traveling nurse on a contract rotation, staying at an extended-stay place near the harbor. She had one key for her 2022 Niro and it had gone completely dark that afternoon. No warning, no gradual fade. Just stopped working between her shift and the parking lot.
The hotel front desk pointed her to the dealer. The dealer told her to tow it in, said they could look at it the following afternoon, and gave her a number that made her pause. Then there was the tow cost on top of that, and she was already working nights. She found me before she found a tow company.
I met her in the lot about forty minutes later. She had the fob in her hand, tried it again right when I walked up, and got nothing from the handles. The interior button on the door pillar got her in, which told me the vehicle itself was fine.
Popped the fob shell, pulled the CR2032. The cell read low enough to explain the whole thing. Swapped it, reseated the fob plate, and the handles woke right back up. That took four minutes.
But I still ran the full check. Walked every door for touch unlock, tested each button, confirmed the vehicle security system was seeing the fob consistently from across the lot, not just up close. When intermittent battery contact is the cause, you want to see it behave over distance before you tell someone they're good to go.
She got her key back that same evening. No tow, no next-day wait, no waiting room. The dealer quote was still sitting in her recent calls. She saved a good chunk.
