Got called out to Mandalay State Beach where a tech worker's 2023 Niro wouldn't recognize his only smart key. Dead in the water at the beach parking lot.
He'd already tried the obvious: new CR2032, holding it against the start button, even the emergency blade in the door handle. Nothing. The dash kept throwing "Key not in vehicle" and wouldn't let him shift out of park. Beach day turned into a lockout situation real quick.
I pulled up with my Autel IM608 Pro and the right 95440-AT010 blank ready to go. First thing I checked: his original key's board showed corrosion near the battery contacts. Salt air does that. The DST-AES chip was still good, but the transmitter was toast.
Connected through the OBD port under his dash. The Niro's system wanted its security PIN, which the Autel pulled in about 30 seconds. Cut the emergency blade on my Xhorse Condor, then paired the new smart key through the immobilizer menu. Total time parked next to his Niro: 22 minutes.
Test run: all seven buttons worked clean, remote start fired up perfect, and the proximity sensors picked up the key from normal distance. He mentioned the dealer wanted him to flatbed it to their shop, wait three days for parts, then pay whatever they decided. Instead, he was back on the road before lunch.
