Got a call from a guy over in the Rio Lindo neighborhood in Oxnard. His 2001 Kia Sephia had one key left and it was barely working. He said the ignition fought him every morning, sometimes taking five or six tries of jiggling before it would turn over. He had been dealing with it for weeks.

Cut two fresh keys on the van. First one slid into the ignition and turned like new. No wiggle, no fighting. He just sat there for a second and turned it on and off a couple times, like he forgot it was supposed to be that easy.
No transponder on these, no programming needed, no computer hookup. The Sephia ran a purely mechanical system. No immobilizer module, no chip in the key head. It is one of the last Kia models that works this way.
He asked if the dealer could have done it faster. Honestly, the dealer would have tried to sell him a whole ignition cylinder assembly. He just needed keys cut to the right specs, done at his curb.
