2013 MINI Paceman Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
North Ventura, mid-morning on a Tuesday. A guy called because his Paceman wasn't recognizing his key. He'd already done the obvious stuff, new battery, tried it closer to the wheel, the whole thing. Car just sat there with a warning on the dash and wouldn't turn over.
He found me online and figured I was worth a shot before calling the dealer. Good call.
I pulled up to his place with the van, got the fob open on the hood where he could watch. Battery contacts looked fine, and the CR2032 he'd put in was seated right. So we weren't dealing with a bad battery swap. I moved to the OBD port, ran the diagnostic, and found the key had lost its pairing. Not uncommon on these when the battery goes fully dead before the owner replaces it, which is exactly what happened here.
Programmed the remote head key on site, cut the blade to match, ran through every function. Locks, unlock, ignition. Everything worked.
He'd called the dealer the day before out of curiosity. They wanted to schedule him out five days and the quote made him wince. We handled it in about 45 minutes in his driveway for a fraction of that.
He said he was going to tell his neighbor, who also drives a Paceman. I told him I'd be out the same day if she called.
