I was already in Simi Valley on a Friday night when this one came in, close to ten o'clock.
A couple had been at a spot near the Santa Susana Knolls area and came out to a 2017 Macan that was completely ignoring the fob. No door response, no welcome lighting, nothing. The fob was the car-shaped five-button unit and the CR2032 inside had finally given out. They had no idea there was a physical blade tucked inside the fob housing. They thought the car was just stuck there until Monday when Porsche of Thousand Oaks opened up.
I was about fifteen minutes out and already had the right fob in stock, along with the programming tools to pair it. I pulled up, showed them the emergency blade first so they understood what they were holding, then swapped the battery to confirm the fob itself was dead rather than a sync issue. It was dead.
New fob, paired through the OBD port on-site, blade cut to the car. I walked every button, checked the keyless entry from both sides, and watched the car respond to the start button before I packed up.
They drove home that night. The dealer route would have meant leaving the car, waiting through the weekend, and paying a number they were not expecting. I do not think they had thought much about the key on that car before that night. They have now.
