Got a call from a Relay owner over near Cross at Grant Park in Ventura. She said the car cranked for a second and then killed itself, dash lit up with the SECURITY light, and it just sat there. She tried again, same thing. Waited ten minutes, tried once more, and this time it actually started. But the next morning, same deal.

I pulled up and checked the basics first. Key turned smooth, no binding in the cylinder. The issue was the Passlock III sensor throwing a bad resistance reading. The body control module was seeing the mismatch and shutting down the fuel injectors after that brief crank. Classic B2960 code, Passlock sensor circuit malfunction.
I ran a Passlock relearn right there in the driveway. Turn to ON, wait for the SECURITY light to go off after about ten minutes, cycle the key, repeat two more times, then start. Thirty minutes of waiting and three key cycles. The BCM accepted the new learned value and the car fired clean.
She watched the whole thing from her porch. When it started on the first try she just nodded and said "that's it?" That was it. No tow, no parts, a fraction of what they wanted at the dealer.
