Got a call from a guy over in the Erbes Road neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. His 2010 Volvo C30 key had been getting harder to turn for weeks, and he finally hit the point where it barely rotated at all. The HU101 blade was worn thin on one side, and the wafers in the ignition were catching on it. He said he could feel it about to snap every time he started it.
I decoded the lock using my Lishi HU101 tool on the driver door, where the wafer positions were still clean and readable. Cut a fresh blade on my machine, matched the profile, and dropped in the ID48 transponder chip. The CEM on these P1-platform Volvos communicates through the OBD port, so the transponder learn was one cycle and done. Car fired on the first turn.
Then I went through the five-button remote on the KR55WK49250: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and the approach lighting button that a lot of C30 owners forget they even have. Every function responded. Swapped in a fresh CR2450 while I was at it, since the old one tested borderline.
He stood there turning the new key back and forth in the ignition, just feeling how smooth it was compared to the old one. Whole thing took maybe 35 minutes from when I pulled up. He kept the worn key as a backup, which I always recommend anyway.
