I got a call from a guy parked in the Richland area of San Marcos. He was staying nearby and had been running errands all morning when the fob just stopped working mid-afternoon. Remote buttons dead, and then the car wouldn't authorize the start.

I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port and read the key slot data. One slot was showing a mismatch, which happens on these. Corrected it, verified the key was being recognized, confirmed remote lock and unlock were working, and walked the doors.
The whole thing took under an hour. He had assumed he was looking at a tow and a couple of days waiting on parts at a dealer. Instead it was done in the parking lot. Dealer comparison was a real one here because he had already called them before calling me, and the number they quoted was painful. He saved a good chunk, and more importantly he didn't lose two days of his trip.
