2007 BMW X5 Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near the Las Americas Area in San Ysidro when a guy flagged me down about his 2007 BMW X5. His brother had been using a spare key, the original was long gone, and now the spare had snapped in the ignition. Not bent. Snapped. The blade sheared off just past the tip and part of it was still sitting in the cylinder.
He asked me what it was going to take.
First job was extracting the broken blade without damaging the cylinder. On an E70 this age the ignition wear matters. You nick that cylinder badly and now you've got a second problem on top of the first. I took my time with that part.
Once the cylinder was clear I cut a replacement key blade to match his vehicle using the key code data. The new key turned clean on the first try.
Then we tested it cold, the way you have to. Crank, hold, wait for the dash to settle. Engine caught and stayed running. That last part tells you the immobilizer side of the key is talking to the vehicle the way it should.
He told me the dealer wanted him to schedule a drop-off appointment and potentially replace the ignition lock assembly outright. He wasn't going to get the car back the same day either way. We did it in the driveway, same afternoon, for a fraction of what they quoted him.
