2005 Cadillac SRX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A guy out near Santee Lakes picked up a 2005 SRX from an estate sale. Low miles, clean leather, not a scratch on it. The family handed him one key and a separate fob, wished him luck, and that was that.
He drove it for about two weeks before the key started acting strange. Some mornings it turned fine. Others he'd get the security light staying on and the engine would fire, then die almost immediately. He assumed it was a fluke. Then one afternoon it just wouldn't run at all. Security light on, engine cranking, stalling every time.
He called the Cadillac dealer in the area. They quoted him more than he expected for a replacement key with programming and told him the next available slot was about a week out.
He found me online and sent a message that night. I was in Santee the next morning.
I pulled up alongside the SRX in his driveway. His original key still had the transponder data I needed, so I read it with my programmer through the OBD port and cut a new blade to match his lock. Programmed the new transponder, tested it through three full start cycles. No stall, security light off, runs clean.
He asked about the fob. I checked it separately, walked him through confirming it was still synced, and we verified every button before I packed up.
He ended up with a working replacement key and a confirmed working fob, done at his house, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted. That spare he's now got also means he's not looking at an all-keys-lost job down the road, which on a mid-2000s Cadillac is a different level of headache.
