2014 Cadillac SRX
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Is a mobile locksmith actually cheaper than the Cadillac dealer for a smart key?

On Cadillacs specifically, the gap tends to be wider than on most other GM vehicles. The luxury brand markup is real, and dealers know SRX owners expect a premium bill. I use the same professional-grade GM programming equipment and OEM-spec fobs. The difference is I don't have the dealership overhead, and I'm not billing you a shop rate for the hour your car sits in a service bay waiting for a tech to get to it.

Q: Does the price include the fob, cutting, and programming, or are those separate?

All included. The fob, programming through the OBD port, and testing every button and function before I leave. Dealers often itemize all of that separately, and some add a security access or diagnostic fee on newer vehicles. With us it's one price, done at your location, and you're not paying for the dealer's waiting room.

Q: My 2014 SRX shows a key warning on the dash even though the fob battery is fresh. What's going on?

Fresh battery and still getting a key-not-detected warning is actually a pretty common SRX complaint on the forums. A few things can cause it that have nothing to do with the fob itself. First, check how the CR2032 is seated. The battery contact in these fobs can get slightly bent from being pried open the wrong way, and a crooked battery will read as dead even when it's brand new.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2014 SRX. Can I program it myself?

No. The 2014 SRX smart key system requires professional diagnostic equipment to register a new fob. There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that works on this vehicle. The programming happens through the OBD port using GM-compatible software, and the vehicle security system has to formally enroll the new fob before it will function. The fob you bought online can absolutely be used, assuming it's the correct one for the SRX.

2014 Cadillac SRX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A Scripps Ranch customer called me around 1am on a weeknight. His 2014 SRX was sitting in the driveway, push-button start, and his only fob had gone completely dead. He'd already pulled up flatbed tow numbers and was planning to wait until morning to get it to the dealer. I told him to hold off and that I'd come to him.

He met me outside in shorts and a jacket, pretty skeptical that this was going to get resolved in his driveway in the dark.

I connected to the OBD port, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the SRX smart key system, and registered a new five-button fob on site. The vehicle security system accepted the new key, I tested every function before I packed up, and he had a working car again before 2am.

The part that got him was that the dealer had been his only mental option. He'd assumed all-keys-lost on a Cadillac meant a tow, a wait until business hours, and a bill he didn't want to think about. Getting it done in the driveway, same night, for a fraction of what the dealer would have charged including the tow and the overnight wait, that part landed harder than the actual fix.

He asked for a second fob before I left. Smart move.

Cadillac SRX Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How much does a 2014 Cadillac SRX key replacement cost?▼

Call us for the exact number, but what I can tell you is it's way less than the dealer route. A Cadillac dealer is going to break the job into parts: the fob itself, a programming labor line, sometimes a diagnostic fee on top of that, and if you're already stranded, add a tow to the total. With EZ Car Keyz, you get one price that covers the fob, programming, and mobile service to your location in San Diego.
