If the engine dies within a second or two of starting and you see any kind of security indicator, the immobilizer is the first thing to look at, not the fuel system or the battery.

That said, a crank-and-stall can also point to other mechanical causes. If the security indicator is not present and you have a key you know was properly programmed, it's worth ruling out fuel delivery before assuming it's the key system. When I come out to a call like this, I check both angles on site rather than guessing.
