It's not the remote portion of your fob -- it's the chip inside the key head failing to communicate with the immobilizer.

This happens on these trucks for a few reasons: the transponder has failed, the key was copied from a hardware store that cut the blade but didn't transfer the chip, or the immobilizer module itself needs attention. A security warning on the dash alongside that stall pattern points right at this.

The fix depends on the root cause, but it starts with a proper diagnosis -- not a battery swap. I carry the tools to read what the system is seeing and figure out whether you need a new key programmed or something deeper.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself?

On the 2005 Trailblazer, there is an onboard remote programming procedure that some owners have used successfully -- it involves a sequence of steps with the door and the ignition. It only works for adding a remote to the vehicle when you already have a working key that starts the car. It does not apply to the transponder portion of the key, and it will not work in an all-keys-lost situation.

If the sequence doesn't take, or if you've already been through it a few times and the fob still isn't responding, the vehicle can lock you out of self-programming mode and then it requires a tool to reset.
