Q: How long will a replacement remote last on a truck this old?

A properly programmed remote on a 1999 Dakota should hold up for years. The programming itself doesn't degrade. What actually wears out first is the physical shell: the buttons get soft, the case cracks, and eventually a button pad separates from the housing. I got a call from a concrete finisher out in Fernbrook one morning. His 1999 Dodge Dakota remote wasn't locking or unlocking anything, and he had a pour scheduled for noon with his tools locked in the bed.
