2001 Dodge Dakota
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2001 Dodge Dakota Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A pest control company owner in Cardiff-by-the-Sea needed dedicated keys for three work trucks in a single visit. His crews had been sharing keys between vehicles every morning, spending the first twenty minutes of the day just sorting out who had which key. He called a dealer about cutting spares and the quote came back high, per key, with the requirement that each truck be brought in separately.

Three separate dealer trips meant three half-days of a tech driving trucks across town instead of running routes. That math does not work for a small operation running tight schedules.

I drove to his yard one morning while the trucks were still parked. Working through each Dakota back-to-back, I cut a replacement key blade to each vehicle and programmed the transponder chip through the OBD port so each truck's immobilizer recognized only its own key. I tested every truck before I moved to the next one, confirming the engine would start and hold idle rather than crank-and-stall.

All three done before the first route left the lot. He saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote, and he did not lose a single truck from service to do it.

He texted me two days later to say the morning key shuffle was gone.
