2005 Dodge Dakota Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Eastlake, a guy called me from the dirt lot at a trailhead on the edge of Chula Vista. He had unloaded his quad, headed out, and somewhere on the trail his key bounced loose. He came back to a 2005 Dodge Dakota sitting in the lot with nothing. No spare, no key, no way home.

He had already called another locksmith. That guy told him the ignition cylinder would likely need to be drilled and replaced, and quoted him accordingly. The number was painful. He called me for a second opinion before agreeing to anything.

I decoded the door lock mechanically, reading the wafer positions without touching the internal components. That gave me the cut depths I needed. I cut a new key blade to match, programmed the transponder to the truck's security system through the OBD port, and synced the remote functions on the four-button head. The whole sequence took about forty-five minutes working out of my van in the parking lot.

The original cylinder was untouched. The lock worked exactly the way it always had. He drove out the same way he drove in, minus the quad and one very lost key.

The drilling quote never came up again. He just asked if I had a card for his brother.
