She was in the hospital parking lot off Bernardo Center Drive in Rancho Bernardo. July. Groceries in the back seat, ice cream in the bag, and her only key to the 2006 Taurus sitting there doing nothing useful.

From her phone call to her engine running was under 40 minutes. The groceries made it. She hadn't said much the whole time, but when the car started she just looked at it for a second and said "thank you, seriously." That was enough.
