2014 Ford Taurus
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths are a real problem, and Ford owners looking for key help get targeted constantly. The pattern is always the same: a vague price on the phone, no marked vehicle, no verifiable business, and a number that stops working after they leave. EZ Car Keyz has over 100,000 followers across YouTube and TikTok where you can watch us do this exact work on real vehicles. We give you a firm price on the phone.

Q: Will the replacement smart key work exactly like the original?

Yes. We program the replacement fob through the vehicle's immobilizer system so it handles every function your original did. Lock, unlock, the fifth button, and the passive door handle recognition if your trim supports it. We test every button and every door before we leave. One thing worth knowing: a lot of aftermarket fobs sold online are listed as compatible but are not properly matched to this vehicle.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2014 Taurus. Can you just program it, or do I need a specific one?

This comes up a lot. Bring it and I'll check it. The fob needs to match the factory FCC ID for your vehicle to program correctly. A lot of what's sold as "compatible" online is close but not right, and some of it won't pair no matter what tool you use. If the one you have checks out, I can program it. If it doesn't, I carry the correct fob and we go from there.

Q: My 2014 Taurus starts fine with the key but the fob range got really short all of a sudden. What is going on?

Short range that develops suddenly on an otherwise working fob almost always points to the CR2032 dropping below usable voltage. These batteries don't always die in a straight line. They'll hold enough charge for the car to start at close range for weeks before they give out completely. First move is a fresh CR2032 from a drugstore or hardware store, not a dollar store cell. Seat it correctly, snap the case closed fully, and retest from normal distance.

2014 Ford Taurus Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near the Lake Poway Area, a guy called me from a parking lot saying his 2014 Taurus wouldn't acknowledge the fob at all. No response on any button. Walk up and the door handle wouldn't unlock from touch. He'd already tried standing right next to the car, nothing.

He handed me the fob and the case had been popped open before. You could see the small marks on the seam. Someone had swapped the battery at some point and forced it a little. One of the internal battery contacts had a slight outward bow, just enough that the CR2032 wasn't making a solid connection even though it was seated.

I straightened the contact, seated a fresh CR2032 correctly, snapped the case back together clean.

Walked the whole fob. All five buttons. Touch unlock on both front handles. Then I had him try the backup start position under the dash badge just to confirm the passive read was working at close range too. Everything came back.

He had already looked up what a dealer replacement fob would cost and was not happy about it. Didn't need one. Ten minutes in a parking lot off a bent contact fixed it.

That's the job sometimes. Not every call is a programming job. Sometimes it's just knowing where to look first.
