2009 Ford Taurus Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
It was a Tuesday morning, maybe 6:50 am, when I got the call. A guy was standing in the Brown Field Area of Otay Mesa, at a construction site off the main stretch, and his 2009 Taurus wasn't going anywhere.
He'd gotten in the night before with no problem. Locked up, went home, came back at dawn, and the fob did nothing. Push-button start just sat there. Dash showed a key-not-detected warning. He thought the car had been messed with overnight.
I was already loaded and rolling. Got to him in under 30 minutes.
First thing I did was open the fob on the hood. CR2032 showed some corrosion on the positive contact, light but enough. Cleaned it, seated a fresh battery, tested the fob range. Doors responded immediately. But the start was still throwing the warning, which told me the immobilizer hadn't cleared on its own.
Connected through the OBD port, ran the key registration, cleared the fault. The whole hands-on portion was about 22 minutes from the time I pulled up.
He clocked in late but not by much. Said his foreman gave him grief anyway. I told him to keep the fob out of his chest pocket near his phone, because heat and pressure on these housings is what bends the battery contacts over time. He nodded like he'd heard that before and was going to ignore it.
The dealer would have had him waiting for an appointment, probably a day or two out. Mobile, on site, done before his second cup of coffee.
