My key shell is cracking or the emergency blade is missing. Can you fix it?

Yes. Many Jaguars, especially those bought at auction or from secondary dealers, have uncut or missing emergency blades. A 2016 F-Type owner tried to use the emergency blade when the battery died and found it was completely uncut and would not even insert into the lock. They ended up paying a locksmith $200 just for entry by pulling the window glass. We can cut a new emergency blade from code, swap electronics into a new shell, and verify the blade fits the door lock, all without reprogramming. If the internal board is damaged, we do a full replacement key on site.

What is a Remote Flip Key?

A Remote Flip Key is the type of key your 2004 Jaguar XJ uses. It contains an encrypted chip that communicates with your vehicle's KVM and immobilizer to verify it is an authorized key before the engine will start. It also has 4 buttons for remote lock, unlock, and other functions. Most Jaguar smart fobs contain a hidden emergency blade inside the housing. On the F-Type, pushing the front of the door handle exposes the keyhole at the rear. On the F-Pace, a removable cover on the driver handle hides the blade slot. We can cut or replace the emergency blade even if your old one is broken or missing.

An I-Pace owner reported intermittent smart key not recognised warnings that affected both keys, suggesting a PEPS antenna or module issue rather than the fobs. A 2022 F-Pace owner found the fix was opening the driver door while pressing the start button. If none of that works, hold the fob directly against the start button or the backup reader pad to use the passive transponder even with a dead battery. If the car still will not respond, call us for diagnosis.

When every key is lost, the KVM must erase all stored IDs and learn new keys from scratch, and on some models the dealer insists on replacing the entire KVM module. An XE owner was quoted $1,914 to $2,600 for AKL with module replacement. One JLR tech said that making it out under $2,000 on a late-model JLR all-keys-lost job means the dealer did you a favor. The gap between add-a-key and AKL is enormous on Jaguars, which is why we always recommend getting a spare while you still have a working key.
