Late call out of Del Mar Village. An overnight ER attending needed a spare key made for her 2013 XJ and wanted to know who she was letting near her car before I even pulled up. The XJ's key system requires diagnostic access to the vehicle security system to register a new fob. There's no ignition-turn sequence, no shortcut. You need the right tools and legitimate access to the security data that goes with the car. I carry equipment built for JLR vehicles specifically, and the programming ran clean. New fob, verified against all functions: passive entry at both front handles, start authorization, lock, unlock, the trunk release.
She watched the whole thing. Asked a couple of sharp questions about how the immobilizer enrollment works. I answered them. She seemed less interested in the fact that it was fast and less expensive than the dealer route and more interested in the fact that it was done correctly and she could verify who did it.
