A brand strategist at the artisan chocolate shop in Coronado asked me directly whether the key would be "dealer quality." She had a 2012 Jaguar XJ and wanted a spare she could use daily, not a backup hidden in a kitchen drawer. Fair question, and it deserves an honest answer.
OEM Jaguar keys come from the factory supplier with the leaping cat logo and the exact factory housing. They cost significantly more because of the brand premium. Aftermarket smart keys use the same ID49 chip, same blade profile, same button layout, and same PCB design. The functional difference in daily use is zero if the aftermarket blank is quality.
I carry aftermarket smart key blanks tested across hundreds of JLR jobs. The blade is the same HU92 laser-cut profile on my machine. The chip is the correct ID49 generation for her car's KVM. I decoded the door lock for the blade cut, then programmed the fob through OBD. Her fob, FCC ID KOBJTF10A, was a 5-button smart key with the same button feel and weight as the factory original. The difference is no leaping cat logo and roughly $150 less in her pocket.
Her total was $406. Dealer charges $719 for the OEM version. I test every batch of blanks before they go in my van.
