Your 2005 Jaguar XJ uses a Remote Flip Key with 4 buttons, a CR2032 battery powering the wireless signal, and an emergency blade tucked inside for backup entry when the fob or car battery dies. The KVM module in the car detects this fob through proximity antennas. Without a registered fob, the engine won't start.
A retired CFO at his gated community driveway near Otay Ranch had a XJ with a cracked smart fob. The housing had split at the key ring loop from being dropped on the garage floor and the emergency blade was loose. The Jaguar dealer told him the only option was a completely new smart key, programmed from scratch. $594. What they didn't mention was that the KVM chip and electronics inside his cracked fob were still working fine.
I used my ACDP to read the KVM EEPROM data as a backup before starting. Then I moved his working electronics into a fresh housing, replaced the weak CR2032 battery, and verified every button plus push-to-start and Keyless-Go. His fob, FCC ID NHVWB1U241, worked exactly as before. I showed him the circuit board so he could see the guts were perfectly fine.
He paid about $332 for the shell swap and battery. The dealer wanted $594 to replace the entire fob when only the plastic was cracked.
