It's one of the more common complaints on L322s from this era, and it can happen after a battery disconnect, after a key is replaced with an incompatible unit, or when the transponder side of the flip key loses its enrollment for any reason.

Worth noting: if the remote still locks and unlocks the doors, that doesn't mean the key is fine. The remote and transponder are separate functions. A key can lock your truck perfectly and still fail to authorize the engine start.

I bought a replacement flip key shell online. Can you cut and program it?

Accepted Answer

Maybe, but it depends on what you actually bought. If you purchased only the shell and blade blank with no electronics, I can cut the blade to your vehicle and transfer your original circuit board into it, assuming your existing board is intact. That's a common and clean solution when the original housing has broken but the internals are good.

If the shell came with a new circuit board or chip already inside, that chip needs to be enrolled to your vehicle's immobilizer before it will authorize a start. That requires diagnostic equipment, not a button sequence. And if the chip inside isn't the right type for a 2006 Range Rover, it won't enroll at all regardless of the tools used.

Before you assume the online purchase will work, bring it along when you call. I'd rather look at what you have than have you buy something a second time.
