2017 Land Rover Range Rover Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was parked near Fletcher Cove on a Tuesday morning, wrapping up notes from an earlier call, when a message came in from someone in Solana Beach.
She had a 2017 Range Rover, five-button smart key, and the car was sitting in her driveway not responding to anything. No unlock from the door handle, no response when she got inside, just a key-not-detected warning on the dash every time she tried.
She had already tried the obvious. Fresh CR2032 from the pharmacy down the road. Still nothing.
When I got there, I asked her to show me the fob she had been using. The battery was new but it was in backwards. Not by much, just enough that the negative terminal was not making contact. Simple swap, correct orientation, and the fob lit back up. Doors responding, push-to-start seeing the key, all five buttons working.
But I did not stop there. On this generation, once the system has been showing errors, I always walk the full perimeter. Touch unlock on both front handles, the liftgate response, start behavior with the fob at different positions in the cabin. Everything checked out clean.
She laughed about the battery being backwards. I told her it happens more than people think and that I would rather spend the extra ten minutes confirming everything is solid than leave and get a callback two hours later.
She had been close to calling the dealer. Whatever they would have charged her to diagnose a reversed CR2032 would have been the kind of number that stays with you.
