2022 Land Rover Range Rover Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out in Spring Valley, over in Bancroft, I pulled up to a 2022 Range Rover sitting in a driveway. The owner had already been through it: called the dealer, heard the timeline, heard the number, and called me instead.
She had one working fob left. It had been acting up for a couple of weeks. Range started having trouble reading it unless she held it close to the start button. She figured she had time. Then one morning it stopped being read at all.
Before anything else, I asked when she last changed the battery. She looked at the fob like it had personally let her down.
Fresh CR2032 in, contacts cleaned, and I tested range. Better, but the vehicle security system was still logging a fault. The fob itself was fine. The issue was that the first fob she lost months earlier had never been removed from the vehicle's key memory. The system was doing what it is supposed to do when it sees enrollment data that does not match what is presenting at the antenna.
I connected my diagnostic equipment through the OBD port, cleared the enrolled fob list, and re-registered her remaining key. Tested every function on site, doors, start, everything. The whole job took just over an hour.
She had been quoted a dealer wait of over a week and a price that made her laugh out loud. We were done before noon.
