2006 Mazda 3 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman parked her 2006 Mazda 3 at her place near Old Town Santee and came out the next morning to nothing. The key turned, the engine cranked, and then it just died. Cranked and died. Over and over. She had already tried a second time thinking she had flooded it somehow.
She called me before she called a tow truck, which was the right move.
I got to her car in Downtown Santee and watched her demonstrate the problem once. Crank, brief fire, stall. The key blade was cut correctly and the cylinder was not the issue. What she had was an unrecognized transponder chip, which on a 2006 Mazda 3 will let the engine catch for just a moment before the immobilizer shuts fuel delivery down. It is a very specific symptom once you have seen it enough times.
I connected my programmer to the vehicle, read the immobilizer, and got the new replacement key enrolled to the system on site. Took maybe 25 minutes from the time I pulled up.
She had been ready to call a flatbed and spend the morning at the dealer waiting for a diagnosis. The dealer would have figured it out eventually, but she would have paid for the tow, the diagnosis time, and the key replacement at dealer rates. She got all of it handled in her own driveway for a fraction of that.
