2015 Mazda 3 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A photographer was staying near North Park during a shoot. Not local, just in San Diego for a few days, renting a place off 30th.
She had one key for her 2015 Mazda 3 and locked it inside the car the night before a location shoot. No spare anywhere. The Mazda dealer told her the earliest they could get her in was two business days out, and she would need to arrange a tow since she had no working key to bring it in herself.
She found me online around nine at night and called.
I met her at the rental within the hour. The job was an all-keys-lost on a smart key vehicle, which means connecting through the OBD port with diagnostic equipment, wiping the existing key memory, and enrolling fresh fobs from scratch. The two-key minimum the immobilizer requires meant I programmed a primary and a spare while I was already on site, so she left with two working keys instead of one.
She watched most of it from the front steps. At one point she asked if I was "basically doing what the dealer does." Pretty much, just in your driveway instead of a service bay, and tonight instead of Thursday.
The dealer comparison came up naturally at the end. She had already gotten a quote. I came in well under it, and she did not have to figure out a tow or a ride back across town at nine in the evening.
