A guy in West Santee had been nursing his 2012 Mazda 3 along with a single fob for about two years. No spare. He knew it was a risk, he just kept putting it off. The immobilizer learned the new key, I confirmed it started and locked cleanly, and then I ran through the door handles to make sure both sides were reading the fob properly at normal range, not just at arm's length.
The whole thing was done on site in under 40 minutes. He walked away with a working primary key and, this time, a spare. The dealer comparison came up at the end. He'd saved a good chunk, and more importantly he didn't have to arrange a tow or a ride.
