Then I did the part that matters: turned the ignition with each key separately, let the car idle, confirmed no warning lights. He stood there watching the whole thing, which I prefer. No surprises, no "what did you just do to my car."
He was back on the road before dark. The dealer would have had him waiting until Monday and charging a lot more for the privilege. I was done in about forty minutes in a parking lot two blocks from the border.
