2005 Mazda 6
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Fair question, and Mazda owners have been burned before. The pattern is always the same: a vague phone quote, an aftermarket key that half-works, then extra fees added on the spot. A real locksmith gives you a firm price for your specific vehicle over the phone and has a verifiable business presence you can check before anyone shows up.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement flip key for your 2005 Mazda 6 will start the engine, and the fob will handle lock, unlock, and trunk release the same way the factory key did. The immobilizer recognizes it, the remote receiver recognizes it, and there is no warning light left sitting on the dash afterward.

Q: My flip key remote stopped working but the key still starts the car. Do I need a full replacement?

Probably not. On the 2005 Mazda 6, the transponder that talks to the immobilizer and the remote receiver that handles lock and unlock are two separate functions inside the same key. If the car starts fine, the transponder side is good. A dead or weak CR1620 is the first thing to check when the remote stops responding, because this battery size has less reserve capacity than what most people are used to.

Q: The car starts but stalls immediately after. My key looks fine. What is going on?

That start-then-stall pattern on a 2005 Mazda 6 points to the immobilizer not fully accepting the key. It can happen when a key has been repaired, when a replacement was not programmed completely, or when there is a communication issue between the key and the vehicle security system. The key turning in the ignition is a mechanical function, so that part working does not mean the electronic side is happy. This is something I diagnose and handle on site.

2005 Mazda 6 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A few months back I got a call from someone working near the Naval Base Area in Coronado. She managed a small shop close to the base and was trying to get to a supplier before they closed. Her 2005 Mazda 6 would not start, and she had been fighting a stiff ignition for a while. That morning the key finally gave out entirely.

When I got there, the blade on her flip key was visibly worn down, and the ignition cylinder had enough play in it that a fresh-cut key would fix the start issue right away. I decoded the lock on site, cut a replacement blade to match, and got the transponder paired to the vehicle through the OBD port so the immobilizer would recognize the new key.

Her original flip fob housing was still intact, so I transferred the electronics into the new shell, seated a fresh CR1620, and ran through the remote functions at the car. Lock, unlock, trunk release, all working. Total time from my arrival to handing her the key was under 40 minutes.

She made her supplier run. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a multi-day turnaround just to order the part. That part is always the afterthought when you call a mobile locksmith, but it seems to matter a lot when you actually need the car that afternoon.

Mazda 6 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Mazda vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services locksmith license (LCO#6792) and carries full insurance. For a 2005 Mazda 6, the key system is mature enough that proper programming tools and a clean procedure are what matter most, not a stack of credentials for cutting-edge security gateways.
