A Saturday afternoon in San Ysidro Village is not a slow time for this neighborhood. Families were out, the streets were full, and a 2019 Mazda 6 owner flagged me down in a parking lot off the main strip because his fob had stopped working and he was already late getting somewhere.

I pulled the fob apart on my work tray right there. Straightened the contact, seated a correct CR2025, and cleaned both terminals. Then I ran a quick diagnostic to check whether the immobilizer had logged anything worth noting. It had not. Clean slate.
The testing part is where I usually lose people for a minute. I walked the full perimeter of the car working each door handle, checked the touch-unlock behavior on both front handles, ran all four buttons at distance, and did three ignition cycles. He watched the whole thing like he was expecting me to stop early and call it done.
He did not need a new key. He needed the right battery seated correctly and someone who would actually verify the fix instead of handing back the fob and driving off. That is the job.
