2020 Mazda 6 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman out in Harbison Canyon called me on a weekday evening. She had a spare she'd been meaning to get cut and programmed for two years and kept putting it off. Then her daily fob started acting inconsistent and she decided to stop procrastinating.
Before I arrived she told me she'd already looked up my BSIS license number. She works in the legal field and said verifying credentials before handing over her car was just habit at this point. I respect that.
The 2020 Mazda 6 Smart Key system requires diagnostic equipment to register a new fob. There is no onboard button sequence, no ignition cycling trick. I connected through the OBD port, pulled up the security system, and went through the pairing process for the new fob while the original daily driver stayed enrolled alongside it. Cut the emergency insert blade to match the door cylinder while the programming ran its sequence.
When it was done, I walked her through testing every button on both fobs, checked that the start button recognized each one, and made sure the trunk release responded from a normal standing distance. The whole job happened in her driveway.
She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her put it off twice. Coming to her in Alpine for a fraction of that is a different conversation entirely.
