2017 Mazda 6
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Mazda 6 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already in Eden Gardens finishing up another call when the text came in. A guy in Solana Beach said his 2017 Mazda 6 was giving him a key warning on the dash and he was not sure if it was the fob or something deeper. He had found me through YouTube, watched a Mazda smart key job all the way through, and saved the number.

When I pulled up, he was standing next to the car in his driveway. He explained that the key warning had been showing up for about a week, sometimes the car would start normally, sometimes the system would hesitate. He assumed the fob was dying but had not changed the battery yet.

I popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2025 inside was reading low, borderline dead. Swapped it out, seated it correctly, and ran a quick check. The system came right back. No more warning, clean detection, every button working.

But I stayed and kept going. On a 2017 Mazda 6 smart key job I always walk the whole system: both door handles for touch unlock, lock and unlock buttons, the trunk release, and a few start cycles. Everything came back clean.

He mentioned he had been about to call the dealer to ask about a replacement fob. I told him to hold off, that a bad battery mimics a failing fob more often than people expect on this generation. It was the battery. That was the whole story.

He paid a fraction of what the dealer would have quoted for a new fob, and I was back on the road in under twenty minutes.
