Worth noting: if you turn the key and the engine starts but immediately dies, that's a sign the immobilizer is active and rejecting the key. That's something I diagnose and sort out on site.

You need at least one currently working, already-registered key to initiate the sequence. If you're adding a spare and your original key still works, there's a chance the process can be done without an external programming tool. If you have no working keys at all, that onboard method is off the table and you need diagnostic equipment.

The other catch is that the blank you bought online has to be the right transponder type for this car. Not every chip in a key head is compatible. If the type is wrong, no amount of procedure will make it register. Bring the key you bought and I can tell you right away whether it'll work before we waste time trying.

Yes, and that's actually one of the cleaner signs that the immobilizer is involved. The engine fires because the ignition cylinder turned, but the immobilizer didn't confirm the key, so it cuts the engine almost immediately. It's different from a no-crank or a dead battery situation.

Try your spare key if you have one. If the spare starts and runs normally, the chip in your primary key has likely failed or the housing damage has shifted it out of read position.
