A guy pulled into a shopping center near Bressi Ranch and heard the snap before he even registered what happened. Half his key was in the ignition, the other half was in his hand. He had already called another locksmith who quoted him a full ignition replacement over the phone without seeing the car.
I drove out and took a look. The blade had sheared clean, which actually makes extraction cleaner than a mangled one. I used a Lishi tool sized for Mitsubishi's keyway to work the fragment out without touching the wafer surfaces. No drilling, no pulling the column apart, no damage to the cylinder at all.
Once the fragment was out, I decoded the lock from the same tool readings, cut a fresh blade, and programmed the new key through the OBD port. His original fob body was fine, so the whole job was a blade replacement and a transponder enrollment, not a fob replacement.
He watched me do it on the hood of the car. When I handed it back and he turned it over in his hand, he asked why the other guy went straight to "replace the ignition" without asking a single question first. I told him that happens more than it should.
The dealer comparison was the last thing on his mind. He just wanted his car back and his afternoon salvaged.
