2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a woman parked near the Viejas Area in Alpine. She'd been sitting in that lot for about forty minutes trying to figure out what was going wrong with her 2016 Lancer. The fob had been acting up for a few days, unlocking the car fine but then showing a key-not-detected warning when she pressed the start button. That morning it stopped cooperating entirely.
She'd already called the dealer. The appointment was two weeks out, and she'd need a tow since the car wouldn't start. That combination was what pushed her to search for something local.
I got there and did the simple thing first. Popped the fob open and checked the CR2032. It tested low, not dead, just low enough to cause intermittent grief. Swapped it out, reseated the contact, closed the fob back up. She pressed the start button and the car came right on.
We sat there for a minute while I walked every function. Lock, unlock, the panic button, and then a second start cycle to make sure the immobilizer handshake was solid and not just a one-time fluke. Everything held.
She mentioned the dealer quote almost as an aside, the way people do when they're already relieved. I just told her to keep a spare CR2032 in the glovebox. Cheapest backup plan there is.
