The 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer uses a CR2032 battery. When we do an all-keys-lost job, the new key always comes with a fresh battery installed. You will not need to worry about battery life on your new key for a long time. We also recommend keeping a spare battery at home once you have your key, since a dead fob on a Mitsubishi FAST key system can trigger a key not detected warning and leave you unable to start the vehicle normally.

Can you make a spare at the same time so I have two keys?

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. On Mitsubishis, the key learning process erases all existing keys and only registers the ones physically present during programming. That means adding a second key while we are already connected costs less than calling us back for a separate visit, which would require erasing and reprogramming all over again. On newer Outlanders, the system allows up to two keys per programming session. If you just went through all-keys-lost, the last thing you want is to be in that situation again. Get the spare now while it is cheap.
