2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
She was parked in her carport near the Naval Base Area, and the fob was barely holding together. The plastic shell had split along the seam, the buttons had that soft, mushy feel of a housing that had been flexing for too long, and the key ring loop had snapped clean off. She'd wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape just to keep it in one piece.
The dealer told her she needed a full replacement. New fob, new programming, the whole job. She called me instead.
When I got there, I opened the fob on the hood to check what was actually going on inside. The circuit board and the electronics were fine. No corrosion, no cracked solder points, nothing wrong with the part that actually does the work. What she had was a shell problem, not a key problem.
I transferred the working internals into a fresh housing, verified the blade cut matched the vehicle, seated a new CR2032 with the contacts properly aligned, and ran through every button and every door. Lock, unlock, the trunk, all of it. Then I did the boring but necessary part: tested the push-to-start, walked the perimeter checking the passive entry at each handle, and confirmed the fob range was solid from a normal distance.
Everything came up working. The dealer was ready to replace something that didn't need replacing. She saved a good chunk, and it took maybe thirty minutes in her own carport.
