I got the call from Peutz Valley, but the Armada was not in Peutz Valley. It was parked at a campground outside Alpine, up in the forest, and the family had been there since the night before with no working key.
They had two fobs when they left home. One had been dropped in a creek on a hike. The other went missing sometime between breaking camp and realizing they could not leave. By the time they hiked to a spot with enough signal to call me, they had already been told by two different people that an all-keys-lost job on a push-to-start Nissan this size was dealer-only work.
I drove out to them. The Armada was sitting exactly where they left it, battery still good, no warning lights, just no key it recognized. That is the part that feels like a brick wall when you are standing in a parking lot in the trees. No visible ignition cylinder, no key slot, no way to turn anything. The vehicle needs to wirelessly verify an enrolled fob before it will wake up and start. Without one, it just waits.
All-keys-lost on this platform means the immobilizer data has to be accessed first, old fob registrations cleared, and then new fobs enrolled through the diagnostic port. It takes longer than a standard spare-key add because of that clearing step and a timed sequence built into the process. I backed up the immobilizer data before touching anything, ran the sequence, programmed a fresh fob, and tested every function on site including both door handles and the rear liftgate button.
The Armada started in a campground with no dealer within a long drive. The family did not get towed. The dealer conversation never happened.
