2007 Nissan Murano
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2007 Nissan Murano Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was July in San Ysidro, right in the Border Area, and the guy had a trunk full of groceries going bad in the heat.

He was standing in the parking lot, watching his 2007 Murano through the window, and his Intelligent Key fob had just stopped responding. Not intermittent. Dead. No door unlock, no handle response, nothing. He tried holding the fob up to the handle the way someone told him once. Still nothing. He is an older man and the frozen section was not going to wait.

He called the dealer first. Next available appointment was the following morning.

He called me. I was in the Border Area already, so fifteen minutes was all it took.

Getting the door open mechanically was the first thing. Then I pulled the fob apart to check before I touched anything else. The CR2032 had nothing left in it, and the contacts inside the case had a thin layer of corrosion from years of humidity, the kind of thing that happens slowly and then all at once. Even with a fresh battery, that contact issue would have kept it from transmitting reliably.

I replaced the fob, programmed it through the OBD port with my diagnostic equipment, and walked every function before I handed it over. Both door handles, the lock button, remote range from a distance, and a confirmed start. He watched the whole thing from about three feet away.

Thirty-eight minutes from his phone call to the engine running. The groceries made it.

The dealer came up once, when he asked what they would have charged. I told him the number would have been a lot more, and that was before the overnight wait. He just nodded and went home.
