The 2024 Murano has a backup detection point built into or near the start button for exactly this situation. It bypasses the passive antenna loop and reads the fob up close. If that gets you started, the fob is functional and the issue is likely a weak signal or a drained battery you haven't replaced yet.

If neither of those works, the problem could be the fob itself, one of the interior antennas, or a vehicle battery that's dropped low enough to affect the security system's ability to complete the handshake. That last one is a common miss. A car battery at low voltage can cause all kinds of ghost security behavior. Test the vehicle battery before assuming the fob is bad.

The fob you bought online is a blank shell. It will never work until it's enrolled to your specific vehicle through the diagnostic port. If you bring it to me, I can program it. You'll pay for my time and the programming, not the part, so buying your own fob ahead of time can sometimes save you a little if it's the right one for your vehicle. Can all my existing fobs be erased if I lose one? I don't want someone finding it and getting into my car.

When a smart key is lost, the right move is a full security reset that wipes every registered fob from the vehicle's memory, then re-enrolls only the keys you have in hand.
