2006 Nissan Titan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

There's a pattern with scam operations: a low number quoted by phone, then a sudden price change once you're already stranded and the car is open. The other tell is vagueness. Ask them what the key type is on a 2006 Titan and what equipment they use to program it. If they can't answer that before they show up, walk away. We quote the actual job over the phone for your specific vehicle.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. The replacement remote head key we cut and program for your 2006 Titan will start the truck and operate the remote functions the same way the factory key did. We test the ignition cycle and every button before we hand it over. If something is off, we sort it out on the spot. You don't find out there's a problem after we're gone.

Q: My 2006 Titan starts fine but the lock and unlock buttons on the key stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Usually not. On this key, the remote side runs on a CR1620. When that battery gets low, the buttons get weak range first, then stop responding entirely, while the transponder keeps working fine because it draws power differently. Swap the CR1620, seat it firmly against the contacts, and test all three buttons from a normal distance. If they come back strong, you're done.

Q: I bought a replacement remote head key online for my 2006 Titan. Can I program it myself?

The remote buttons on some older Nissan trucks can be self-programmed through an ignition-turn sequence, but the transponder side of a remote head key is a different matter. The transponder has to be enrolled with the immobilizer, and that requires a programmer. If the transponder isn't registered, the truck will crank and immediately shut off.

2006 Nissan Titan Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Alpine Village, a guy called me early on a Tuesday. He'd snapped his key in the ignition of his 2006 Nissan Titan and was standing in a lot near the yard where he buys parts. Half the blade was buried in the cylinder. The other half was in his palm. The truck was still in accessory mode because he couldn't get enough purchase to turn it back.

He sounded like he was already doing the mental math on a tow and a multi-day dealer visit.

I got there and worked the broken piece out of the cylinder with a pick set, going slow so I didn't disturb the wafers. Once it was out, I decoded the lock right there and cut a fresh blade from my readings. On a 2006 Titan with this key type, the remote housing is separate from the blade for programming purposes, so I only needed to cut and enroll the new transponder. The remote functions on his original fob were already working fine.

The immobilizer registered the new key in one cycle. I tested it a few times, had him try it himself, and confirmed the remote was reading correctly before I put my tools away.

He said he'd been dreading the dealer call. Saved a good chunk and was back to his day before noon.
