I got a call from a guy over in the Bancroft area of Spring Valley. He'd been at the park near the courts, locked his Titan, walked back out an hour later, and the fob just wasn't talking to the truck. Doors wouldn't unlock, the start button gave him a key-not-detected warning, and he was standing in a parking lot with a four-button fob that had turned into a useless piece of plastic.
He'd already tried the fob-to-start-button trick. It worked once, barely, and then stopped. That told me the battery wasn't the whole story.
I pulled up, verified ownership, and went to work. Opened the fob on the hood of the truck while he watched. The CR2032 was showing low voltage on the meter, but the real issue was one of the battery contact clips had a slight outward bow, just enough to kill the connection under normal carry conditions. Straightened the clip, seated a fresh CR2032, and closed the fob back up.
Then I connected my diagnostic tool to the OBD port to check the key registration status, because a marginal fob that's been throwing errors can sometimes trip the immobilizer into a partial lock state on these trucks. Everything read clean. The existing key was still properly enrolled, no registration fault, no security lockout.
So the rest of the job was just confirmation. I walked the full perimeter, tested every button, checked lock and unlock from across the lot, started the truck three times from cold to make sure it wasn't intermittent. He asked why I kept walking away and pressing buttons again. I told him range degradation under load is a real thing, and I don't hand a key back until I know it behaves the same at distance as it does standing next to the door.
He said the dealer had quoted him a full fob replacement plus programming time. He didn't need any of that. A clip adjustment and a fresh battery, confirmed with tools, done on site in Bancroft.
