2014 Subaru WRX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call from a guy at an alignment shop in Bear Valley, Escondido. He had not called me first. He had called another locksmith first, which is how I ended up at a job that was already in a bad place.
The other locksmith had attempted to program a replacement transponder key on his 2014 WRX. Midway through the security enrollment, the battery voltage dropped. The programming sequence did not complete cleanly, and the immobilizer went into a fault state. The car would crank but die immediately. The locksmith decided that was above his pay grade and left. The alignment shop called me because they needed the bay back.
When I pulled up, the owner was standing next to his car looking at it like it had personally let him down. I hooked up my jump pack first, got stable voltage, then connected my programming tool and pulled the fault codes before touching anything else. There was a security fault stored from the interrupted sequence. I cleared it, waited for the module to reset fully, and then ran a clean programming cycle from the beginning with the battery held solid the whole time.
The new key learned on the first attempt. Engine start confirmed. I tested it three more times before I called it done.
The owner said the other locksmith had told him the car might need to go to the dealer to have the immobilizer module replaced. It did not. It needed someone who did not leave when it got complicated. Total time on site was about an hour and a half.
