2023 Acura Integra
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does it actually take to program a new smart key once you show up?

Add-a-key, where you still have one working fob, runs about 20 minutes on site. The registration goes through the OBD port, the system does its timed handshake with the new fob, and once it confirms, you're done. All-keys-lost takes longer because the vehicle security system needs a full reset before it will accept any new fob at all. That adds time, but it's still well under an hour of actual work at the car.

Q: Can you program a replacement Integra smart key faster than the dealer?

The programming itself takes the same amount of time regardless of who runs it. The system doesn't move faster for a dealer than it does for me. What changes is everything wrapped around it. Dealers typically book smart key work as a half to one labor hour, but the actual visit stretches to an hour and a half or two once you account for the repair order queue, parts counter, and waiting on a certified tech to free up.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or does it have to be a specific one?

This comes up a lot. The short answer: it depends on what you bought. The 2023 Integra uses a specific fob tied to its smart key system, and not every aftermarket fob sold online is actually compatible, even if the listing says it fits. Some will register without issue. Others will go through the motions and never fully confirm. If you bought one and it didn't come from a verified source, I can test it when I arrive.

Q: The door handle touch unlock stopped working but the start button still sees the fob. Is the key failing?

Probably not the fob. If the start button is reading the key normally, the fob is doing its job. Touch unlock on the Integra relies on a capacitive sensor in the door handle, and those can act up from dirt buildup, moisture, or a sensor that's starting to go on that specific door. Wipe down the handle area and retest.

2023 Acura Integra Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over in Mountclef Ridge, I got a call from a teacher with a 2023 Integra. Her one fob had been giving her trouble for weeks.

She'd walk up to the driver door, touch the handle, and nothing would happen. Half the time she ended up holding the fob directly against the start button just to get the car going. The housing had cracked along the seam and the buttons had that soft, pre-failure feel to them.

She'd already called the dealer. Next available was Tuesday. It was Thursday. She wasn't going to lose a school day sitting in a service lounge waiting on a repair order queue.

I pulled into the lot during her planning period. Popped open the OBD port, ran the smart key registration for the new fob, and watched the system complete its handshake with the replacement. Clean registration, confirmed start. The whole thing was done in about twenty minutes.

Before I left, I told her to hold onto the cracked fob. The housing is what failed, not the board. If the new one ever takes a hard drop and splits at the seam, that board can go right into the old shell instead of buying a whole new unit. It's a two-minute swap and owners on the forums have done it successfully.

She drove off before the bell rang and didn't miss a minute with her students. Cost her a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she didn't burn a day of leave to get there.

Acura Integra Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a 2023 Acura Integra key replaced after hours or on a weekend?▼

Most Acura dealer service departments close by early evening and go dark on Sundays. If your fob dies or goes missing on a Saturday night in Simi Valley, you're looking at Monday at the earliest, and that assumes they have a tech available and the fob in stock. The Integra's smart key system needs proper diagnostic equipment to register a new fob, so there's no workaround that gets you moving on your own. I work outside dealer hours.
