Q: Is all-keys-lost different from just adding a spare?

Q: Are aftermarket keys reliable for a 2016 MDX?

They can be, but you have to match the system exactly. 2016 MDX without remote start typically uses a 4 button KR5V1X at 315 MHz. Advance models with remote start use the 5 button KR580399900 at 902 MHz with a Philips ID47 transponder. The board is often marked A2C80399900 or similar Continental numbering. If you buy the wrong frequency or the wrong FCC ID, it will never register. I only install remotes that match your exact trim and system so you are not gambling on compatibility.

Q: Why does my MDX say “Keyless Access System Problem”?

2016 Acura MDX Smart key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In the RiverPark neighborhood in Oxnard, I got a late call from a 2016 Acura MDX owner who had zero keys. Third generation MDX, pushbutton start, Advance package with the 5 button remote start fob.

First thing I asked for was the VIN. With that, I can confirm if it takes the 4 button KR5V1X or the 5 button KR580399900 remote start key. On Advance models, Acura lists 72147-TZ6-A71 for Driver 1 and 72147-TZ6-A81 for Driver 2. Both use the KR580399900 FCC ID and a CR2032.

When I got there, I verified ownership and hooked up my diagnostic tool. On these, the factory procedure runs through the ONE-PUSH START system and the “All Keyless Access Remotes Lost” function. It requires a security code and a timed registration sequence. Once the immobilizer accepts the new ID47 chip, the car will finally crank and stay running.

Under the parking lot lights, I cut the emergency insert, built the smart key, and registered it. I always test door handle touch unlock, lock button on the handle, hatch release, panic, and remote start on Advance trims.

He drove off with a working key that night, no tow, and way less hassle than the dealer route.
