In Oxnard, right off the Ventura Road shopping corridor, an older gentleman called about his 2001 Acura MDX. He had one working start key, the separate remote had quit, and the blade was getting stiff in the ignition. He uses the MDX for medical appointments and did not want to gamble on that single key giving out.
I met him in the parking area and started with the basics. His remote was a 3-button 308 MHz unit, battery fresh, but the case was flexing enough that the board was losing contact with the terminals. I set that aside and focused on the mechanical side first.
I decoded the door with a HON66 Lishi, cut a new transponder key on a BHD106-PT blank, and registered the Megamos ID13 chip through the diagnostic port. Once the Type II immobilizer accepted it, the green key icon on the dash did what it should and stayed off. The ignition felt noticeably smoother with the fresh cut instead of the worn blade he had been forcing for years.
Then I put the MDX into remote learn mode and watched the door locks cycle. Remote back online. He tried the new key a few times, nodded, and tucked the spare somewhere safer than the kitchen counter.
