2011 Acura MDX Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got the call in Moorpark, right near Tierra Rejada Open Space. A tire shop owner had a 2011 Acura MDX sitting dead in his lot and no idea what to do next.
Another locksmith had tried programming a replacement key. Halfway through, their tool lost communication with the immobilizer control unit. After that, the MDX would crank, fire for about one second, then die. The green key light on the dash just kept flashing.
Acura has an iN bulletin, SB-10053752-4917, covering 2011 to 2013 MDX models with intermittent start and immediate shutoff tied to the immobilizer system. When battery voltage dips or a registration sequence gets interrupted mid-write, the immobilizer status log stacks failed authentication counts and the ECM stops trusting any key.
First thing I did was stabilize battery voltage with a support unit. Low voltage is a known trigger for immobilizer DTCs on these, specifically B1177 for abnormal battery voltage and B1178 pointing to the immobilizer control unit itself. I cleared the stored codes, confirmed the PCF7936 transponder was healthy, and ran a clean key registration through the OBD-II port.
No rushing. No clicking around guessing.
Once the new key registered clean, the MDX started and stayed running. I cycled it a few times to be sure. The shop owner just nodded when it idled steady. Way better than lining up a tow and sitting on a dealer waitlist.
